Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers With porcelain veneers, you can revamp your smile without significant restorative dental work.

Porcelain veneers are glass-like, wafer-thin covers that are attached to the front of your teeth. Porcelain has been used in dentistry for many years because no other restorative material is such an excellent match for natural tooth enamel. Porcelain is translucent and can be matched to the color of any tooth. It is stronger than enamel and resists stains. Dental ceramists who fabricate porcelain veneers are both artists and technicians. They create beautiful paper-thin wafers that adhere to teeth, correcting chips and stains. Porcelain veneers can also straighten crooked teeth for patients who don’t need orthodontic work.

Patients who receive porcelain veneers appreciate the less-invasive process of enhancing their smile. Newer techniques require no removal of healthy tooth enamel.

We would be happy to show you what veneers can do for your smile.

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Wilmette

Tooth-Colored Fillings in Wilmette Hello! Welcome to the Dino Mantis, DDS blog. If this your first visit, we hope you find useful information about our Wilmette cosmetic dentistry practice. If you have read some of our previous articles, we are glad you checked back with us. We post new articles regularly.

My name is Dino Mantis, DDS. I have been practicing dentistry in Wilmette since 1987. Dino Mantis, DDS is a full-service dental office located at 1625 Sheridan Road in Wilmette. In addition to providing comprehensive examinations and deep cleanings for clients in the Wilmette area, we perform all types of tooth restorations.

When a tooth has decay or has been damaged, restorative dentistry is needed to ‘restore’ the tooth to its previous intact condition. A dental filling is one of the most common and well-known types of restorations. A dental filling is used to repair decayed or damaged tooth surfaces. Most people have a few fillings in their mouth.

If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible tooth-colored fillings. These fillings are made out of a strong composite resin. Many of our cosmetic dentistry patients in North Shore, Wilmette, and Evanston have replaced their old silver fillings with fillings matched to their teeth. You can improve your smile instantly and relatively inexpensively by getting rid of the ‘metal’.

Another reason some clients have had their old fillings replaced is because they are concerned about the possible heavy metal toxicity of the mercury in the silver.

If you would like to replace your amalgam fillings, call us at 847.256.4776 to schedule a consultation. We are currently accepting new patients and would be happy to show you around our Wilmette cosmetic dental office and introduce you to our friendly team.

Smile – it increases your face value!

Dental Crowns at Dino Mantis DDS

Dental Crowns at Dino Mantis DDSDental crowns have been used in dentistry for over 2000 years. There is evidence that the Etruscans experimented with crowns on teeth using ivory and bone as early as 700 B.C. By 200 A.D., they began using gold crowns to construct artificial teeth. Ancient Egyptians fashioned tooth replacements out of seashells and then hammered them into their gums (Oral sedation, anyone?).

Porcelain crowns were first used in the 1800s. With the refining of metal casting methods in the 1900s, crown dentistry advanced significantly.

Today, crowns are strong, comfortable and are made to match your surrounding teeth.

Dental crowns (also called caps) cover the entire visible portion of the tooth and are cemented in place. Dental crowns are used to strengthen teeth that have been worn down or weakened by decay or injury. Crowns are also used to restore the original shape of a tooth or solely to improve the appearance of a tooth.

The most common types of dental crowns are:

  • All-porcelain (ceramic)
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal
  • Gold

The material used is determined by several factors. If you suspect you need a dental crown, want to replace an old crown, or want to learn about other cosmetic dentistry procedures, call Dentist Dr. Dino Mantis. Dino Mantis DDS is located at 1625 Sheridan Rd, Wilmette, IL 60091. We can recommend the best tooth restoration or cosmetic dentistry option for you.
